William M. Stanard, Sr.
1928-2012 SOUTH LEE William M. Stanard, Sr. of Beartown Mountain Road, South Lee, died September 29, 2012 at Fairview Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 4, 1928 in Tyringham, the first of 11 children of Howell P. and Jenny L. Stanard. He moved to Beartown Mountain as a youth and spent many hours hunting, fishing and snowmobiling on the mountain. He also enjoyed playing in a weekly pitch league.
He was educated in Lee schools. He married Julia M. Duby on December 28, 1946.
He worked for many years at the M.W. Steadman Rake Factory in Tyringham, and later in the Kimberly- Clark paper mills.
He was predeceased by his wife Julia, daughter Shari Scace, great-grandson Larry Navin, his parents, sisters Beverly Keefner, Jeanne Kirchner and Donna Sommerville and brothers Howell P. and Howell F. Stanard.
He is survived by his daughter Lynda Stanard of Lenox, son William Stanard, Jr. and his wife Lynn of Monterey, son Edward Stanard and his wife Jeanne of Westfield and son-in-law Thomas Scace of Pittsfield; granddaughters Irene Navin of Brattleboro, Mary Fabiano of Austerlitz, and Christine Thorp of El Cerrito; grandsons Robert Navin of Pittsfield, William Navin of Lenox, Douglas Stanard of Westfield, and Mitchell and Drew Scace of Pittsfield; great-grandchildren Marrina-Raine Gallant, Megan and Emily Fabiano, Jacob Novik, and Austin Henry Thorp; brothers Noel and Robert of Lee and Richard of South Lee; sisters Bertha Vreeland of Becket and Shirley Hunter of South Lee, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be a memorial service on Tuesday October 9th at 11 a.m. at the M.J. Kelly Funeral Home in Lee with the Rev. Russell Moody of the Pittsfield Church of Christ officiating. Mr. Stanard's family will receive friends starting at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Lee.
