Mario Longo

Mario Gene Longo 1920-2012 M. Gene Longo, 92, died Thursday morning at his home on Silver Street in Gt. Barrington. He was born in Waterbury, Conn., on May 9, 1920, the son of Eugene and Teresa Ferrari Longo. He moved to Lee as a child and was educated in St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Lee High School in 1938. He worked at the Smith Paper Company until entering the Army Air Corps where he served from January of 1942 to October of 1945. He then returned to Smith Paper where he worked until Retiring in 1982. On June 22, 1949 he married the former Mary C. Foley from Torrington, Conn. She died on September 27, 1998. Mr. Longo is survived by his friend Jackie Storti with whom he made his home. One son; Donald G. Longo of Richardson, Texas, two daughters; Mary Ann Albrecht of Glastonbury, Conn., and Kathleen Armstrong of Pittsfield. He also leaves five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is predeceased by two sisters; Mary Nardi who died in 1995 and Polly Koloski who died in 1975. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Gene Longo will be Monday at 10:15 a.m. from the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Mr. Longo's family would like to thank his nurses Andrea and Catherine.
