This again is your second cousin Hinda in Israel, daughter of Eunice Brunell Winer, your father's cousin. My grandfather Julius and your grandmother Lena were sister and brother, as you can see us all in the photo I sent 5 years ago. Did I mention then that besides some of your father's book, I have your mother's book "Sarah's Daughter" too. My mother always spoke so proudly of her cousin and what a nice family they all were.
I was in Conn this summer and would love to be in touch with you all. Please will someone write to my e-mail address below.

This is from your second cousin Hinda in Israel, Eunice Brunell Winer's daughter. My mother always spoke very fondly of her cousin Miltie. I'm sorry I never met him and only have family photos as a little girl. Fortunately I did have the opportunity of a few phone calls this past year before the Brunell reunion in Worcester this summer. We had all hoped you would come but it was not to be. I know he wasn't happy with the movie "Jory" but I keep a copy of it on my computer! Remember you all have a very extended family here in Israel and hope to met some of you one day.

Milton was a mentor for me, giving me the opportunity to write a book review column in the Eagle, which led me to a writing career. Thank you so much, Milton.

Dear Ruthie and all other family of Milton,
I send my deepest condolences on your loss. When Cheryl called me to tell me that Milt passed I was speechless for a few moments and she asked if I was still on the line? I had paused to reflect that I had enjoyed his columns and viewpoint for longer than I had known you and Michael, Alyssa and Amy. When we visited for your milestone B-day in August, I commented to Cheryl that Milt had physically declined but he still had a sharp mind and opinions.
Take some comfort in knowing that your friends and his care and share in your bereavement. Milt's legacy will not be forgotten. His writing prowess, and his dedication to his family will live on for many, many years. Enjoy the good memories you have of times you've spent with him. I know there will be special moments that occur that will remind you of Milton and cause you to smile. I wish you strength in this difficult time.
I am in Fort Myers right now and regret not being there to personally comfort you.

I remember when Mr. Bass visited me when I worked at BCBS (1980s) in Pittsfield and he ordered a handpainted "Pet on a Sweat" shirt for Ruth. He graduated with my mother, Pearl Harris Kitmacher and worked at the Eagle while I worked there during Warren Fowler days. He was a fixture of culture in the Berkshires. It seems that a person such as Milton Bass will always be with us.

Dear Mrs. Bass, Michael, Elissa and Amy,
Sorry to read about the passing of your husband and father. His wit and insight have been a part of my life for so many decades. From the Washington State coast I would get a nostalgic glow when I logged in to the Eagle to catch up on the goings-on in the Berkshires. His garden, local politics and the changing of the seasons kept me connected to life and family.
He will be remembered fondly,

Ah Ruth: No one leaves this earth alive except astronauts. Milt's passing is so sad, but not tragic. He lived a long, full, highly productive life and contributed so much to our community. It was always a joy to read what he had to say. Carry on as best you can. Wini b

I remember Milton Bass from my days as a paperboy at the Berkshire Eagle, where I would pick up my papers and where he was a young reporter at the time. He was always genuinely warm and pleasant when I would see him. I have read and enjoyed his observations and criticisms over the years in The Eagle. He will be missed by many, including this young paperboy, now old.

To know Amy and Elissa was to know Miltie, and I am so grateful that I did. He is responsible for paying me the best compliment I have ever received - he told me he bet I was a fun date. For my money, I'd bet that honor belongs to Miltie.
