Kingsley Kelly

1915 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
Kingsley Kelly, 97, formerly of Sheffield, died peacefully surrounded by loving family on Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Concord, N.H. Born in Hartford, Conn., on Oct. 27, 1915, he later worked his way through the University of Michigan, graduating in 1939 with both his B.A. and M.B.A. He remained a Wolverine fan for life. Called up from the Army Reserve, he served his country throughout World War II. He married the love of his life, Sarah F. Rowe of Baltimore, Md., in 1946, after both had completed their Army duties. They lived for many years on Long Island, N.Y., raising their five children while spending summers in the Berkshires and Maine. King retired as President of Seaman and Eisemann Insurance Agency in Hicksville, N.Y., where he supported town organizations including Kiwanis, Boy Scouts and the Chamber of Commerce. He was highly regarded within the insurance industry throughout his career. In 1976, they moved to their home in Sheffield, fondly known to the family as "The Farm." King's love of the outdoors led him to working tirelessly in his Sheffield orchard as well as taking great pleasure in building a log cabin on Parker Pond in Maine. For more than 40 years, he was a careful steward of these lands and guaranteed their preservation through permanent conservation restrictions. When he and Sally felt it was right, they moved in 2003 to Havenwood-Heritage Heights, a continuing care retirement community in Concord, N.H. King was always active in his church whether First Presbyterian Church in Greenlawn, N.Y., Old Parish Church, UCC in Sheffield, or most recently First Congregational Church, UCC in Concord, N.H. Throughout their 66 years of marriage, King and Sally worked as a team, being particularly known for their dedicated commitment to the Berkshire Association of the Massachusetts Conference, UCC; and to Gould Farm, a therapeutic residential community in Monterey. Wherever they lived, they actively supported causes of peace. He is survived by his loving wife, Sally; his children, Arthur K. and Jill Kelly of Acton, Maine; Elizabeth M. Kelly of Gilford, N.H.; James W. Kelly of Sheffield, and his fiancé, Jill Graham of Monterey; Barbara K. and Daniel Ruble of Minneapolis, Minn.; Susan K. and Olaf Alksnis of Oakville, Ontario, Canada; 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Jeremy. Kingsley loved his family, lived his faith, served his community, and acknowledged the good in everyone. A service celebrating King's life will be held at Old Parish Church in Sheffield on Monday, May 6, 2013, at 1 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Jill Graham, pastor. In lieu of flowers, direct donations may be made to Old Parish Church, Box 387, Sheffield, MA 01257 or to Gould Farm, Box 157, Monterey, MA, 01245.
