Abigail Toby Landa

1925 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Abigail Toby Landa, 88, of 75 Mountain Drive, passed suddenly at her home, Friday, May 23, 2014. She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., Sep. 20, 1925, daughter of the late Sarah Blasberg Auslander and Abraham Auslander. She was a graduate of James Monroe High School, the City College of New York, and earned a Master's Degree in Social Work from SUNY Albany. A public school teacher in the Bronx, N.Y., Toby and her late husband, Morris Landa, came to Pittsfield in 1954, and she worked in the Stockbridge and Pittsfield Public Schools, and later, was a social worker in Berkshire County. A former president of the Knesset Israel Synagogue sisterhood and active member of the congregation until her passing, Toby is survived by her sons, Philip Landa and his wife, Lisa, of Belmont, Mass., and Sheldon Landa of New York, N.Y., and the proud grandmother of Sophie Landa, also of Belmont. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services will take place Sunday, May 25, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Knesset Israel Cemetery, with Rabbi David Weiner, Spiritual Leader of Congregation Knesset Israel Synagogue, officiating. The family will receive friends during Shiva at Congregation Knesset Israel Synagogue, 16 Colt Rd., Pittsfield, on Sunday, May 25, 2014, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Congregation Knesset Israel Synagogue or to a .
