Agnes M. Furey

1927 - 2015 Agnes M. Furey, 88, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2015. Born in Sheffield, MA on October 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late B. Daniel and Gladys Curtiss Litchfield. She was a graduate of Searles High School and St. Luke's School of Nursing where she was a member of the last cadet program. She married Edward F. Furey on June 14, 1952. Agnes worked as a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Pittsfield where she was head nurse on the second floor and later at Fairview Hospital in the maternity wing from which she retired in 1990. Agnes loved her family and worked to make holidays and every day a special day for her sons and grandchildren. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed travel and was especially fond of family trips to Cape Cod and Maine where she could calmly sit and watch the ocean. Agnes was a devoted fan of all sports and would travel throughout New England to watch her grandchildren play. She was affectionately called one of the Great Barrington Grannies on trips to the Cape for basketball tournaments. She is survived by her two sons, Edward "Ted" and his wife, Jane, Joseph and his wife, Cindy, her grandchildren, Sean and Margaret, Kevin and Megan, Daniella, and Mariana. Also surviving her are her sister, Gladys (Betty) Shepard and brother, Daniel and Beverly Litchfield, her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kirby, and her brothers-in-law, Thomas and Robert Kirby. She leaves many nieces and nephews. Agnes was predeceased by her husband, Ted, on June 14, 1956, her granddaughter, Megan, her sister, Bernice Kakley, her sisters-in-law, Marilyn Furey, Joan Ryan, Noreen Kirby and brothers-in-law, Bill Kakley and Ken Shepard. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Agnes M. Furey who died November 21, will be held on Tuesday, November 24, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10a.m. at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish Corpus Christi Church, Housatonic con-celebrated with the Reverend William P. Murphy pastor and Reverend Jack Sheaffer, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Expressions of sympathy in Agnes' memory may be made to St. Mary's School, Lee or National Veteran's Legal Services Program, in care of the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South Street, Great Barrington, MA. 01230.
