World War II Veteran

1923 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Aldo J. Gaspardi, 91, of 22 Radclifffe Avenue, in the Lakewood section of Pittsfield, died Oct. 30, 2014, at the Summerlin Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. Born in Bridgewater, Mass., on June 21, 1923, the son of Anthony and Maria Pavoni Gaspardi, he was educated in Lee schools. Mr. Gaspardi was employed by the Beloit Corporation, formerly E.D. Jones, in Pittsfield. He left to serve in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II with the 834 Bomb Squadron. He specialized as a truck mechanic, and served time in England during the War before separating with an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Sergeant. He returned to E.D. Jones until retiring in 1983 as a Numerical Tape Programmer. After retiring, Mr. Gaspardi worked another year as a consultant for the company, then worked at the Berkshire Bank part-time for nine years. Mr. Gaspardi was a member of the Italian-American Club where he enjoyed years of playing bocce and pitch. He held a Team Captain position with the Bocce Club for several of those years. He and his wife of 64 years, the former Agnes Kernozek, were married February 4, 1950. They had one son, Aldo Teofil Gaspardi, who died on July 23, 2006. Besides his wife, Mr. Gaspardi leaves four grandchildren, Anthony Gaspardi, his wife, Katie, and their daughter, Annabella; Melisa Jones, her husband, Tommy, and their sons, Travis, Tieler, and Tavon; Jason Gaspardi and his sons, Giovanni and Angelo; and Bryan Gaspardi and his daughter, Giovanna. He is also survived by two sisters, Norma Pothul and her husband, Frank, and Mary Coradeschi. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Olga Willis, who is survived by her husband, Riley. Mr. Gaspardi is blessed to have several nieces and nephews in Mass. and Conn. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Aldo Joseph Gaspardi will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m, at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, Pastor. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A celebration of Mr. Gaspardi's life will then follow at the Italian-American Club. The DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of local arrangements.
