LEE Aldo Pascucci, 90, from Lee died Friday morning at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born on July 4, 1922, he was the son of Victor Pascucci and Eugenia Campoli Pascucci. A graduate of Pittsfield High School he joined the
where he served in Europe as a corpsman.
He participated in the invasion of Normandy, The Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Combat Medical Badge-
Medal - Belgian Frogerere - one Silver & Bronze Star for six war campaigns. While serving in France, he met Jeannine Lomprez, the love of his life whom he married in France on March 3, 1946. He was discharged as a corporal tech.
He was known for helping veterans and became known as the Veterans Veteran. He was a disabled veteran himself and was a lifetime member of both the D.A.V. Chapter 15 of Pittsfield, the
Veterans of Foreign Wars
, and the American Legion. He served as commander of the D.A.V. 1996-1998, Commander of the VFW Post 893 of Lee from 1994 to the present, and Commander of Dist. 9 VFW of Berkshire County from 1996-1997 and 2003- 2007.
As Chairman of the Lee Memorial Park committee, he was responsible for the design, naming, and construction of the James M. Burt Veterans Memorial Park.
After moving to Lee in 1963, he became involved in many community projects and service. His involvement included: founding of the Lee Little League farm system, President of Lee Babe Ruth League, founder of the Lee Band Parents Association, and many other community programs such as L.E.A.D. for the beautification of downtown Lee. He has been Chairman and organizer of parades in Lee since 1993 to present for all the Memorial Day and Founders Day parades.
He also served as a member of the Lee Planning Board from 1991 to 2000 and as Chairman of the Board from 1994 to 2000. He had served as a Town Representative and Chairperson for District 4 and District 6. In 1997 and 2000, he was elected as Selectman and served as Chairman in 1999 and 2002. He also served as Interim Town Administrator and committee member for the Master Plan for Lee as well as the Board of Directors of Lee Land Trust. He is also a member of the Sons of Italy of Lee.
Though retired from most community boards and projects, he had presently still served as an alternate on the Planning Board and Board of Directors of Elder services.
He had been awarded many awards that include: Citizen of the Year 2003 from Who's Who where he has been listed since 2000. In 2002 he was voted and listed in the Berkshire Eagle as one of five politicians in Berkshire County who did the most for their towns. He was awarded the Citizens of the Year Award in 2003 from the Lee Lenox Stockbridge Rotary for Service to the people as a member of the Lee Planning Board and Selectman Service to our Nation as a member of the Military Service and friends to Veterans of Military Service.
As a strong person of faith, he had been a longtime member of Berkshire Hills Baptist Church in Lee and had served on the deacon board throughout those years.
Over his life he worked for GE, Lubin Hardware, Lee Hardware, and Dealers Supply where he was top salesman for several years. He was the owner and operated the Lee Main Street Jewelers until his retirement in 1987. Seven years ago he opened Aldo's Gold and Silver Shop in Lee where he worked until his death.
His hobby's included bowling and driving his Model A coupe.
His wife, Jeannine, died March 9, 1976.
Aldo leaves three children, Daniel Pascucci of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; Michele Mitchell of Lee and Corinne Birkholz of Canaan, Conn.; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Ermalinda Ringie of Pittsfield and brother, Vincent Pascucci of North Providence, R.I.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Aldo Pascucci will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Berkshire Hills Baptist Church in Lee. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the KELLY FUNERAL HOME. There will be a short service Tuesday at 6 p.m. with the VFW Chaplin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Mass. D.A.V. State Project or Christian Ministries in C/O the Kelly Funeral Home 3 Main street Lee, MA 01238.
