1921 - 2015 PITTSFIELD Alexander Joseph Smialek, 93, formerly of 245 Cheshire Road, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015 at Springside of Pittsfield where he has resided since November of 2013. Born on Feb. 26, 1921 in Pittsfield a son of the late Joseph and Josephina Morusiewiez Smialek. He attended schools in Pittsfield. He was a World War II United States Army Veteran and was in the Battle of the Bulge and had received a Purple Heart and Silver Star. Mr. Smialek was last employed for the City of Pittsfield in the department of sanitation. He also had been employed for the Railroad and the General Electric Company. He was a former communicant of Saint Francis Church. He leaves his beloved wife the former Beulah E. Hardy whom he married on April 22, 1946 at Saint Mark's Church; a daughter, Patricia A. Fenner and her husband, Allen, of Lee; two grandchildren, Brian Fenner and Christine Galeucia; two great-granddaughters, Alexandra and Teaghan Galeucia. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Smialek; and two sisters, Ann Glander and Sue Kelly. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be private, there are no calling hours. Memorials in his memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, Ma. 01201 which is handling arrangements.
