Alexander W. Szymanski

1927-2013 CHESHIRE Alexander W. Szymanski, 85, of 92 Wells Road, Cheshire, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Hillcrest Commons where he has resided for two weeks.

Born in Pittsfield on March 8, 1927, a son of Alexander and Mary Lacki Szymanski, he was a 1945 graduate of Pittsfield High School and attended the University of Massachusetts Agricultural Program.

Mr. Szymanski had been employed by General Electric Company where he was a winder for more than 30 years.

He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire.

He enjoyed his home on Wells Road, which he built, and gardening.

Mr. Szymanski leaves his wife, the former Virginia T. Gajda, whom he married October 29, 1949, in St. Mary of the Assumption Church.

He is also survived by a son, Steven J. Szymanski of Singapore; a daughter, Elaine S. Ilmberger and her husband, Michael, of Pleasanton, Calif.; four grandchildren, Ryan Szymanski, Christina Szymanski, Benjamin Ilmberger, and Eric Ilmberger; and a sister, Alice Haywood, of Pittsfield.

Mr. Szymanski was pre-deceased by a sister, Rose Trepazy; and five brothers, Stanley, William, Charles, John, and Peter Szymanski.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Alexander W. Szymanski will be held Thursday, March 7, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Church celebrated by Rev. David R. Raymond, Pastor. Burial will be in the spring in Cheshire Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church in care of DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, P.O. Box 445, Cheshire.
