Alice Cardoso Alvaro 1915 - 2009 PITTSFIELD Mrs. Alice M. Cardoso Alvaro, 93, of 136 Dalton Ave., died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at Berkshire Medical Center. She was born in Celorico da Beira Mesquitela, Portugal on Nov. 1, 1915, daughter of Jose and Beatris Pacheco Cardoso. She attended schools in Portugal. Alice came to the United States and settled in Pittsfield in 1945. She worked at the Stratton Coat Factory for a short time. She was primarily a homemaker, and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed sewing and professional wrestling. Her husband was Joseph M. Alvaro who died on Aug. 12, 2000. They were married on March 17, 1947. She leaves one son, Allen J. Alvaro of Pittsfield; two grandchildren, Alicia J. Alvaro and Adam J. Alvaro of Pittsfield; five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel Rando; Kai Alvaro; Levi and Evan Taylor, her former daughter-in-law, Robin Alvaro of Pittsfield. A sister, Adelaide De Almeida is deceased. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Alice Alvaro will be Monday Sept. 28, 2009, at 8:15 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. Pittsfield, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations to the in care of the funeral home.
