Alice J. Pyra 1931-2012 ADAMS Mrs. Alice J. (Rys) Pyra, 81, of Adams, died early Friday morning, March 16, 2012, at her home. She was born in Adams on January 24, 1931, a daughter of the late Joseph and Jozefa Adamczyk Rys. She graduated from St. Stanislaus Kostka Elementary School and attended the former Adams High School. Mrs. Pyra last worked at the former Waverly Fabrics in Adams for 15 years, until retiring in 1987. Earlier, she had worked at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Co. and the former First National Store in Adams. She had been a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. She was well known for her green thumb, growing many house plants and flowers, as well as a thriving vegetable garden every summer. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, and donated hand-made sweaters for Teddy Bears given to children attending the HH Camp in Lake Luzerne, NY, as well as blankets used for infants staying in neonatal intensive care units that were distributed through the Bridging People and Places organization. Her husband, Edward S. Pyra, whom she married on May 13, 1950, died on October 2, 1991. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Gula and her husband, Larry, of Westerly, R.I.; and Susan Biros and her husband, Jim, of Adams; four grandchildren, Katie Mitchell and her husband, Jon, of Warwick, R.I.; Melissa Gula of Denver, Colo.; Lisa Biros and her fiancee, Michael Collins, of Adams; and Sarah Rougeau and her husband, Tim, of Adams; A Great Granddaughter, Avery Elizabeth Mitchell, of Warwick, R.I.; A sister, Genevieve Kaczowski, of Savoy; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Clemens Rys; and by four sisters, Mary Racette, Stacia Langer, Carol Meczywor, and Helen Guerin. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 21, at 9 a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Tuesday, March 20th, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
