1926 - 2016 CLARKSBURG, MA Allan Eugene McLain, 89, of Clarksburg, MA died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Sweet Brook Health Care Center. He was born in his grandparents home on Henderson Rd in Williamstown on November 7, 1926 a son of the late Forist and Edna (Sweet) McLain. He moved with his family at the age of seven to Clarksburg and in the 1950's built his own home where he lived for the rest of his life. He graduated from Drury High School. Mr. McLain was a decorated veteran of WW II serving with the United States Navy on the USS Savannah, USS Augusta and the USS John D. Ford after his honorable discharge in 1946 he enlisted in the Naval Reserves. He was employed for 43 years as a steam engineer in the boiler room at the Sprague Electric Co. During his retirement be worked part time at the Shady Pines Campground in Savoy. He was a longtime member of the local Masons. He enjoyed fly fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Blanche (King) McLain whom he married April 16, 1947 in North Adams. Alan leaves his five loving children, Linda Sarauer and her husband, Roger of Fond Du Lac, WI. Debbie Howland and her husband, Steven of Florida, MA. Pat McLain of Cheshire, MA. Betsy Plante and her husband, Rick of North Adams and Allan G. McLain and his wife, Cindi of Clarksburg, 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grand-children, one niece and several nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Forist McLain Jr. and one sister Jacqueline Quirk. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services will take place Monday February 29, 2016 at 7pm at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. Burial with full military honors will take in Clarksburg Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 5 to 7p.m. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested for the Clarksburg Senior Center where he and his wife spent time in recent years.
