Obituary Condolences

Ann Lillian Daury Astbury 1932 - 2012 PITTSFIELD Ann Astbury died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on January 28, 2012. Ann was born in Pittsfield, daughter of the late Walter Daury and Lillian Tremblay Daury. She lived in Washington, D.C., for a short time and after moving to New Hampshire met and married a wonderful man. She was the loving devoted wife of Earl C. Astbury, whom she married Sept. 27, 1968. Ann was the oldest of 11 siblings and a 1951 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She was an avid reader of biographies. She built an extensive library of these books, as well as a collection of specialty dolls. Ann was a devoted wife and mother of five who always kept an immaculate household. Ann was always there for her young grandchildren, enjoying many hours of UNO, Yahtzee, and multiple other children's games. Ann formed many long term relationships in the community, having been an Avon lady for over 25 years, and was very witty, having a great sense of humor. In her later years, she enjoyed keeping alive the traditions of actually communicating by note cards and letters while making others feel special by never forgetting anyone's birthday or recognizing occasions with a quick note to wish them well and say "Hello." She worked daily crossword puzzles to keep her cognition intact and received great pleasure from visits by her sisters and children. Ann was also very attentive to her godchildren, Mark Wadsworth and Vicki Barthel. She took her role in developing their skills into adulthood very, very seriously. Ann is survived by her children, J.P. Becker of Pittsfield, Carl Becker of East Otis, Leslie Trachier Daley and her husband, Nelson Daley, Jr., of Lee, Adam Trachier and his wife, Lisa, of Hinsdale, and M. Gabrielle Webb Kuehl of Huntington Beach, Calif.; her grandchildren, Rachael Daley-Otto of Lee, Nicholas Becker of Texas, Tiffany, Cassidy, and Chelsea Kuehl of California, and Joseph Daley of Lee; lastly, the great-grandchildren, S. Connor Otto and Dominic Sarno. Ann's sisters include Linda Wadsworth and her husband, Robert, of New York, Lillian Woodard and Charles of Florida, Beverly Czajka of New York, Jacklyn Tanaka and her husband, Hachatoya, of New York, and Audrey Alexandra of Florida. Ann's brothers include Frederick Daury of New York and Walter Daury and his wife, Kim, of Georgia. Ann was predeceased by her sisters, Janice Blacker and her husband, Irwin "Curly" Blacker, and Cecilia Wadsworth; and her brother, Peter Daury. FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no calling hours at this time, as Ann had requested cremation. A celebration of Ann's life will take place at a later date. Interment will be in Hanover, N.H., Cemetery. Ann had requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Berkshire Humane Society or to the animal shelter of your choice. The DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, is in charge of arrangements.
