Anna Braman

1919 - 2013 STOCKBRIDGE Anna "Anne" Braman, 93, formerly of Larrywaug Cross Road, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at the Village at Laurel Lake.

Born in Stratford, Conn., on Aug. 25, 1919, she was the daughter of Irving and Charlotte Johnson Webb. Anne graduated from Stratford High School in 1937 and attended the Lawthorpe School of Horticulture for Women in Groton.

She moved to Stockbridge in 1940 and worked as a horticultural secretary at the former Berkshire Garden Center, now the Berkshire Botanical Gardens, retiring in 1950. She was later employed by the Austen Riggs Center and the Red Lion Inn in the Gift Shop. For many years, she arranged the floral decorations at the Inn.

Over the years, she served on many committees, was a trustee and a longtime member of the Herb Association at the Berkshire Botanical Gardens. During World War II, she volunteered as a plane spotter in Stockbridge.

Anne was also a member of the First Congregational Church of Stockbridge for over 60 years, where she married her husband, David, on Aug 19, 1950. They were married 54 years until his death on Jan. 29, 2005.

Anne is survived by her cousins in Connecticut and by her friend and caregiver, Alice Collins of South Lee.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service to celebrate the life of Anna Braman will be Tuesday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at The First Congregational Church of Stockbridge. There will be no calling hours and burial will be private.
