Anne Roberts

1928 - 2014 EAST OTIS Anne Harrison Cooper Roberts, 84, of East Otis, went home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2014, after a long struggle with COPD. She was born on Oct. 1, 1928, daughter of Bertrand and Gladys (Fairweather) Cooper and adopted daughter of the late Dora N. Cooper. She graduated from East Hartford High School in 1946. In 1950, Anne graduated from Faulkner Hospital School of Nursing in Jamaica Plain and was a registered nurse until 2013. She was employed as a registered nurse in Boston, Martinsburg, W.V., and retired in January of 1997 from the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospitals in Newington and West Haven, Conn., after 32 years of service. Anne married Melvin B. Roberts, of Martinsburg, W.V., in Hartford, Conn., on Aug. 11, 1951, and they resided in Martinsburg from the time of their marriage until September of 1960 when they moved to Connecticut. They lived in Connecticut until 1997 when they moved to East Otis to the beloved family cottage her father built. Anne and Mel traveled extensively. Anne was a life member of VFW Auxilary Post 10732 in Berlin, Conn., a member of the Otis Council on Aging, and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Anne was a loving wife, mother, and grammy. She is survived by her son, Mark E. Roberts and his wife, Barbara, of Elkton, Va.; her daughter, Margaret A. (Peggy) and her husband, Charles, of East Otis; her eight grandchildren, Lee E. Roberts and wife Kelli of Harrisonbrg, Va., Heather R. Roberts of Shenandoah, Va., Rebecca A. Roberts Beaulieu and husband, Bill, of Elkton, Va., Laura L. Harner Martin of Great Barrington, and Charles W. Harner and wife, Kimberly, of Timberville, Va., and her six great grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett Cooper and Harrison and by one sister, Hazel. FUNERAL NOTICE: At Anne's request, there will be no viewing or funeral service. Graveside celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Hockanum Cemetery in East Hartford, Conn.
