1924 - 2014 NORTH ADAMS Mr. Anselmo Ashe Benoni, 89 of 345 Walnut St. died Thursday, Aug. 28, at North Adams Commons. He was born in North Adams on Dec. 12, 1924, son of Giuseppe and Maria (Rossi) Benoni. He attended local schools including Drury High School. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Navy on the USS Spry. Ashe was employed as a carpenter and contractor and was a partner with the Benoni and Viens Contracting business for many years. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. His wife was the former Ida Rose Roy who died on July 22, 1984. They were married on Oct. 25, 1950. Survivors include four daughters, Dawn Vadnais and her husband, Peter, of North Adams, Kim Laird and her husband, Fred of Lee, N.H., Diane Prevey and her husband, Mark, of Stamford, Vt, and Jacqueline Field and her husband, Ted, of Florida, Mass.; and a son, Joseph Benoni and his wife, Paula, of Clarksburg.He is also survived by ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters including Rose Maselli of Adams, and Martha Robare of North Adams; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two sisters, Helen Benoni and Inez Fierro. One of Ashe's biggest pleasures in life was spending time with his family and friends. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery.
