Anthony Satrape Obituary
Anthony J. Satrape

1923 - 2015 PITTSFIELD Anthony J. Satrape, 92, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Springside of Pittsfield where he had resided. He was born on February 3, 1923 a son of the late Emilio and Antonina Satrapi both of Sicily. He grew up on the West Side of Pittsfield, the youngest of seven brothers and two sisters. Early on he acquired the nickname 'Stu' after his oldest brother, Tommy, at a very young age, bought a Studebaker and could be seen driving on North Street. From that time on all the brothers were affectionately known as 'Stu'. Tony attended Tucker School for his elementary education, then graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1941. While in High School he played baseball, football and basketball. He excelled at basketball and in 1941 in his junior year he was named All Northern Berkshire and in 2003 was inducted into the Pittsfield Basketball Hall of Fame. In March 1943 he was drafted into the Army and was a part of the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign and saw action in Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe, Northern France and the Ardennes. After WWII Tony worked for General Electric for 42 years. He was a Union member and served as a Steward at GE for a number of years. He also did moonlighting as a car salesman and World Book sales representative which gave him an opportunity to meet people. He was a parishioner of the former Mt. Carmel Church. He had a great interest in politics and worked Silvio Conte's campaign to get Silvio elected to the US Congress. After he retired he enjoyed going to the race track and traveling, to Florida in the winter months and California in the fall to visit his sisters, Mary and Anne. Tony's main activity was walking and just about every day you could see Stu walking the City and greeting people he met along the way, a past time he truly enjoyed. Survivors include his son, Anthony Emilio Satrape and daughter, Eileen Satrape both of Pittsfield and his grandchildren; Dean, Michael, Anthony and Nicole and his great-grandchildren, Amanda, Jacob, Stephanie, Jackson Emilio, Dominique and Toni. Also his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his six brothers, Thomas, Joseph, Frank, James, Philip and Paul and by two sisters, Anne DeRosa and Mary Heath.
