Armando Ferreira

1926 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Armando Ferreira, 88, formerly of Melbourne Place and most recently of Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility, passed away Tuesday, following a brief illness. Armando was born on March 11, 1926 in New Bedford, Mass., the son of Manuel and Lucia Seqeira Ferreira; he attended the New Bedford public school system. He served in the United States Army during World War II, in the European Theater in France and Germany. He was employed by the former A.H. Rice Silk Mill for 31 years, in the sales department until his retirement in 1984. Armando enjoyed going for walks, completing jigsaw puzzles and hunting and fishing. He leaves his wife, the former Mary A. Whitham, whom he married Aug. 16, 1952; they recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Armando also leaves his sister, Hilda Kelly of Pittsfield, brother, Nelson Ferreira of Kernersville, N.C., and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Doris & Joseph Areno. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. Armando Ferreira will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Ralph W. Howe, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
