Arthur C. Bourdon

1923 - 2014 ADAMS Arthur C. Bourdon, 90, of 17 Pleasant St., Adams, died on Friday, April 4, 2014, at North Adams Commons. He was born in Adams on April 20, 1923, a son of the late Arthur and Edna Hampel Bourdon. He attended schools in Adams and graduated from the former Adams High School. He then went on to graduate from the Gilbraco Trade School in Springfield. Mr. Bourdon was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 10th Mountain Division of the Army. He received his honorable discharge on Nov. 22, 1945. Mr. Bourdon worked for many years as a mechanic in the Naval Ordnance Division of the former General Electric Co., Pittsfield. He was a communicant of the Parish of Blessed John Paul and the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Adams. He was the last surviving member, from Adams, of the 10th Mountain Division, New England Chapter. He was a member of the Northern Berkshire Retired Men's Club and the Stamford Vermont Country Club. He, along with his wife, enjoyed traveling extensively. Mr. Bourdon was an avid skier and was featured in the film Purple Mountain Majesty by Blair Mahar. There is also a mural of Mr. Bourdon on display in the Adams Visitors Center. He is survived by his wife, the former Jeannette M. Boucher, whom he married on Sep. 21, 1946; two sons, Thomas A. Bourdon and his wife, Inga, of Fairfield, Calif. and James V. Bourdon of West Springfield; a grandson, Ryon Bourdon of Amherst, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Meriam Levesque and by a brother, Bernard Bourdon. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
