Austin Alfred Rogge

1917 - 2013 ADAMS Austin Alfred Rogge, 96, of 23 Randall St., died Monday, June 10, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in North Adams on Feb. 24, 1917, a son of Luigi and Elizabetta (Rosatto) Rogge, he attended schools in North Adams.

Mr. Rogge was an Army veteran of World War II having served from Feb. 13, 1941, until receiving his Honorable Discharge on Jan. 6, 1946.

Mr. Rogge worked for 43 years for the former Sprague Electric Co., North Adams, until retiring as a supervisor in 1979.

He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. He was a 50-year member of the Maple Grove Civic Club, Adams, and a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion and the Sons of Italy, North Adams. He enjoyed taking numerous road trips with his family throughout his lifetime.

His wife of 65 years, the former Emily Rzepka, whom he married Nov. 8, 1941, died Nov. 21, 2006.

He is survived by one son, Joseph Rogge and his wife, Janet, of Adams; one daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Sweet and her husband, George, of Cheshire; three grandchildren, Jennifer Kestyn and her husband, Robert; Jamie Rogge, and Paul Sweet and his wife, Kimberly; four great-grandchildren, Emily and Meredith Kestyn and Rachel and Adam Sweet; one brother, John Irace of Newcastle, Pa.; one sister, Rose Girardi and her husband, William, of North Adams; his longtime friend and caregiver, Joseph Nowak of Adams, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Henry Irace, and by six sisters, Philomena Richardello, Josephine Scalise, Angelina Laino, Mary Maselli, Constance Briola and Frances Louison.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Saturday, June 15, at 9 a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
