1923 - 2015 WASHINGTON Barbara E. Keiper, 91, formerly of Washington, MA died Wednesday morning, July 1, 2015 at Springside Nursing Home in Pittsfield. Born in Pittsfield on December 8, 1923, the daughter of the late John H. and Hazel E. (Snow) Meiers, Barbara grew up in Becket and lived there with her husband, Robert, and her family until 1980 when they built a new home and moved to Washington, MA. She attended school in Becket, graduated from Chester High School and Henry W. Bishop Memorial School of Nursing where she became a registered nurse working at Pittsfield General Hospital and Berkshire Medical Center for over 25 years retiring in 1985. She was a member and former deacon of Becket Federated Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Becket Federated Women's Society, Washington Scholarship Committee, Washington Council on Aging and Becket Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed biking, cross country skiing, knitting & crocheting and baking. Her husband, Robert V. Keiper, whom she married on October 27, 1945, died on October 9, 2003. Mrs. Keiper is survived by four children, Paul Keiper and his wife, Nancy, of Washington, Roy Keiper and his wife, Glenda, of Bolton, CT, Barbara Viens and her husband, Charles, of Westfield and Diane Duquette and her husband, Denis, of Washington, MA. She also has 10 grandchildren: Timothy Guay, Jeffrey Guay, Eric Keiper, Andrew Keiper, Denise Stetz, Ryan Keiper, Danielle Schroeter, Megan White, Lindsay Meade and Kelly Jo Ilvento and 20 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Kenneth R. Keiper, on December 12, 2014, and by her sisters, Marjorie Willey, Gloria Tremblay, and brother, John Meiers. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Memorial Service for Barbara E. Keiper who died July 1, 2015 will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 1p.m. at the DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton conducted by the Rev. Kevin C. Smail, pastor of Becket Federated Church. Burial will take place at a later date in North Becket Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 12 to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations in memory of Barbara may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 890 Main St. Dalton, MA 01226.
