1931 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Benjamin "Benny" Rodrigues, 83, of 73 Dewey Ave., Pittsfield, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center, after a long illness. Born in Pittsfield on April 21, 1931, Benny was the son of the late Andri and Ermina Bernardo Rodrigues. He was a 1950 graduate of Pittsfield High School and served in the Navy aboard the USS Warrington (DD-843) from 1951 to 1955. Upon completion of active duty, Benny was employed by Sheaffer Eaton, first in the printing department and later in the shipping department, for over 30 years, until the company closed. He was also employed, on a part-time basis, by the Pittsfield Parks Department for over 40 years. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan who suffered through his teams lows and rejoiced in its' successes. He also enjoyed an occasional outing to the Mohegan Sun. He was an active member of VFW Post 448, in which he served as a past commander, and was currently serving as Corporate Director. Benny is survived by his wife, the former Pauline Skowron, whom he married in 1953. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 4, 2013. He leaves two daughters and a son, Pam Wilson and her husband, Art, of Pittsfield, Cindy Williams and her husband, Dave, of Pittsfield, and Andre Rodrigs and his wife, Connie, of Maineville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Amber Williams, Gabe Rodrigs, Hana Kenny, Eliza Rodrigs, Taylor Rodrigs, and Shane Rodrigs. Benny was predeceased by his sister, Ida Mangano, who died April 18, 2004. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Benjamin "Benny" Rodrigues will be held Friday, May 9, at 1 p.m, at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Soldier On in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
