1927 - 2016 Whisler, Bernadine Rebbe was born in Chester, IL on April 9, 1927 to the late Frederick Christian and Lillie Armstrong Rebbe, and passed away in Louisville August 15th with family by her side. She attended SIU in Carbondale, IL and was a homemaker raising three children with her husband John, who preceded her in death last year after 68 years of marriage. The family lived in Pittsfield, MA for 45 years. Bernadine was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Dalton, MA where she enjoyed volunteering in the church consignment shop. She was an avid reader, having read all of Charles Dickens' works. Her dogs, sewing, crocheting and traveling, especially to Hawaii, were very important hobbies. She and John moved to Louisville in 2010 where they became members at St. Andrew United Church of Christ. Survivors include her three children, Mark (Shelley), Keith (Terri) and Marilyn; two grand- children, Corey (Chrissy) and Jenna; half-brother, Lynn James. Special thanks to her caregivers Joan Dempley, Anita Lee, Sally Spagnolo and Joy Persson for the love and support shown to Bernadine. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 23rd at St. Andrew United Church of Christ, 2608 Browns Lane. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Kentucky Humane Society in her memory. Online condolences may be left at www.ratterman.com.
