Betty L. Begin

1927-2012 Mrs. Betty L. Begin, 85, of 403 Crane Ave., died Monday evening, October 22, 2012 at home.

Born in Seymour, Ind., on January 3, 1927 the daughter of Eugene and Alta England Boling she attended schools in Indiana before moving to Pittsfield and attending Pittsfield High School.

While still in High School, Betty worked nights at General Electric.

On July 4, 1947 she married her late husband and joined him in his business, Eddie's Open Air Market on West Housatonic St. She later worked at the former Wendell Hotel and eventually became manager of the former Tiffany Pub Kitchen at the hotel. She most recently worked at the former Dalton Nursing Home.

She loved to work in her garden. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, bird watching, crocheting and sewing; she was always making things or fixing something for family and friends.

Mrs. Begin was predeceased by her husband, Leo Begin, he died on March 14, 1977.

She leaves a son, Edward L. Begin of Rensselaer, N.Y.; two daughters, Kathy Burgess of Pittsfield and Bonnie Conner of Hinsdale; two sisters, Ruth Ann and Mary Alice and five grandchildren. She also leaves her two cherished friends, Edna Garshelis and Rhetta Jaeschke. Also, to mourn her passing, she leaves her dog pooh.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty L. Begin will be Friday, October 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA with Rev. William Furey officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to or to Make-A-Wish Foundation, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, in her memory.
