Betty-Lou Orlowski

LEE Betty-Lou Orlowski, formerly Maby, 92, died on Sept. 23 in Ft. Myers, Florida, where she had lived during her retirement years. A concert pianist and piano teacher, she was on the faculty of the Berkshire Music School in Pittsfield, MA for 39 years, retiring in 1988. She also maintained a private teaching studio for many years in her home in Lee, MA. Many of her students went on to music careers themselves. A native of Paw Paw, Michigan, Orlowksi was a frequent performer on the Berkshire Music School's faculty performance series. She was an honor graduate of the Eastman School of Music where she was a soloist with the Eastman Symphony and received the prestigious Performer's Certificate. In Ft. Myers she had been a volunteer program director and performer for Calusa Musicale, a chamber music organization of local music professionals. She was a sought-after accompanist for instrumentalists and singers, and judge for youth music competitions. She was a member of the Southwest Florida Symphony volunteer group, often entertaining at the piano for fund raising events. She gave solo recitals for many senior facilities in the Ft. Myers and Tampa areas during her early retirement. Even during her last decade, she remained an avid ballroom dancer. She leaves her husband, Raymond Tibbetts of Ft. Myers, FL, daughters Marion Maby of Sedona, AZ, and Carol Watroba of Monson MA, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
