Blanche Mary Louise (Brazeau) McConnell

1918-2012 Blanche Mary Louise (Brazeau) McConnell, 94, passed away Wednesday, October 31st, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the daughter of George M. and Eva (Sicor) Brazeau, Sr. Blanche was born August 19, 1918 in North Adams, and was a life long resident of the Greylock section of town.

Blanche attended Holy Family School and graduated from Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur and Bliss Business School.

Blanche was a life long member of Holy Family Church. She also belonged to The Children of Mary and the Ladies of St. Anne Guild. Blanche sang in the choirs, with Sr. Rita Cardin, St. Martha's and all choirs gathered for special occasions. Also, with Neil Healy and Fr. Matt Alcombright.

Blanche and John T. McConnell were married on June 22, 1942. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary on June 22, 1992 with a Mass officiated by Father John Foucher. He died on April 1, 1999.

As a young girl she helped her father in running the family grocery store, Brazeau's Market. She also worked at Cornish Wire in Williamstown.

Blanche returned to help in the market. When her brother, George, Jr., took another job, she ran the business daily with her husband John until its closing in 1985. Brazeau's was known by all the children for its large assortment of penny candy. She is even remember by all of them today who are her caregivers.

After her retirement Blanche became more involved with her church. She helped, with a group of ladies, in decorating for all religious services for the "Love of God." Blanche became sacristan serving all the priests who came to our church. She remained active until the closing of her church in 2009. She enjoyed knitting for her family, making many sweaters for her grandchildren.

Blanche is survived by her daughter, who she loved, Rachel McConnell Smith, her grandchildren Michael J. DiGennaro and his companion Jane Anderson, Richard J. DiGennaro and his companion Jane Schnopps, and Veronica J. DiGennaro and her companion Butch O'Neil. Her great-grandchildren Nicco R.J., Johnathan C., Brandon M, & Matthew J. DiGennaro, James J. Galusha, Caitlyn Boucher, Jon and Thomas T.C. Oliver. Blanche was 1st of 5 generations leaving great-great-granddaughter Maci Elaine Stanley.

Blanche was pre-deceased by her brothers J. Lawrence, Harvey W., and George M. Brazeau, Jr. Also, her grandsons Carl J. DiGennaro and Richard R. Longobardi.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling Hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, Ma. are Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.
