Bruce N. Kilmer

1954 - 2104 LEE Mr. Bruce N. Kilmer, 60, of 50 Dublin Hill, Lee, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 22, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on March 3, 1954, the son of Charles F. and Beatrice Turner Kilmer, he was a 1971 graduate of New Lebanon Central High School. He had also graduated from Berkshire Community College with a degree in Fire Science. He began a 38 year career with the Pittsfield Fire Department on October 31, 1976, where he was well respected among his fellow firefighters. He rose through the ranks over the years, earning the rank of Lieutenant, Captain and was currently Deputy Chief for the Pittsfield Fire Department. Mr. Kilmer was on the Board of Directors of the Pittsfield Firefighters Union IAFF Local 2647; a member of the Pittsfield Permanent Firefighters Benefit Association; a member of the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services District 5 Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team and the Massachusetts Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team. It was with this team that Bruce traveled to New York City after the 9/11 tragedy to search for his fallen comrades. When not on duty, Bruce enjoyed spending time in Boston cheering on his beloved Red Sox at Fenway, screaming when the Boston Bruins scored at the Garden or freezing at a New England Patriots game. When not at the games he was found out on his beloved Harley Davidson traveling anywhere the road led, making great friends along the way. Bruce is survived by his three children, Jason Kilmer and his wife, Carolyn, of Boxford, Joshua Kilmer and his wife, Amanda, of Dalton and Jamie Boehm and her husband, Jonathan, of Pittsfield; his sweetheart and longtime companion, Chrissy Humason; a brother, Art Kilmer and his wife, Jan, of Essex, Vt.; eight grandchildren, Riley, Caden, Kieran, Madden, Emerson, Jackson, Wes and Shaun; his former wife, Patricia Kilmer; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Shaun Kilmer; and a sister, Linda Chittenden. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
