1928 - 2012
PITTSFIELD - Bruno L. Podavini, 84, of 167 Appleton Ave., died Friday evening, June 22, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 30, 1928, in the Farnam's section of Cheshire, son of Pietro and Elizabeth Balardini Podavini, he attended schools in Cheshire and Adams. Mr. Podavini worked as an assembler in the Transformer division of General Electric in Pittsfield for 41 years, retiring in 1986. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the Navy. Mr. Podavini was a former communicant of the former Mount Carmel Church.
He was a sports enthusiast and an avid Boston Red Sox Fan. He enjoyed having his family over to the house to watch the Red Sox play.
Bruno leaves his wife, the former Dalia Balardini, whom he married on July 31, 1960, at the Masonic Temple. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary two years ago. He leaves four children, Nancy Dallmeyer of Pittsfield, Peter Podavini of Huntersville, N.C., Bruce Podavini and Keith Podavini, both of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, Jonathan and Elano Dallmeyer and Jennifer and Kaitlyn Podavini, both of Huntersville, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Geno Podavini and a sister, Inez Lennon.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Bruno L. Podavini will be Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at 9 a.m. from the Dwyer Funeral Home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey Deeker, CSS Priest in Residence. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, June 26, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m.
