C. William "Duke" DeMyer

1928-2013 C. William "Duke" DeMyer, 85, a resident of New Ashford, MA died Thursday October 24, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Pittsfield, MA July 12, 1928. He was the son of the late Richard Joseph and Hattie Bell DeMyer. The family shortly thereafter moved to Albany, New York where he lived until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1947. Duke served as a Machine Accountant in Washington D.C. until 1950 After his honorable discharge from the Navy he moved to Massachusetts and settled in Berkshire County where he held various positions until he was accepted and entered the Massachusetts State Police Academy in January 1956. DeMyer was assigned to various barracks until his mandatory retirement at age 50 in 1978, at which time he had reached the rank of Major. After retiring from the State Police, he accepted a position with Kay Bee Toys where he set up and directed a Security Department then later set up a Personal Department. In January 1983 Kay-Bee Toys had grown to a Nationwide Corporation with over 1000 stores in 50 states and Puerto Rico at which time DeMyer was promoted to Vice President of Personnel. In 1990 Mr. DeMyer retired from Kay-Bee Toy stores. Mr. DeMyer was pre-deceased by three sisters and two brothers and leaves behind many nieces and nephews. At the request of Mr. DeMyer he will be cremated. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday November 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the New Ashford Volunteer Fire Department or the Williamstown Ambulance Service through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201
