Carl Edward Callahan 1933-2012 PITTSFIELD Carl Edward Callahan,78 of 39 Joan Drive, Pittsfield passed away peacefully in sleep at home on Thursday January 26, 2012. Born in Adams, on September 13, 1933, he was the son of the late Louis E. and Esther Hunter (Dick) Callahan. He graduated in 1952 from Adams Memorial High School where he was an outstanding three sport athlete. He was on Numerous Berkshire County and Western Mass All-star Teams. He was an active member of his high school reunion committee. He married his first wife, Lorraine Helen (Harrison) Callahan, January 3, 1953 in Adams. They were married for 43 years until her passing April 21, 1997. "Cal" was first employed at the Arnold Print Works. In 1956, he and his young family moved to Westfield. During his years in Westfield he was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and was a member of the choir and Past President of the St. Mary's Men's Club for many years. He was employed by Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks, Ct. since 1956. He was a lead man in environmental control systems until his retirement in 1993. Cal was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Mary. He moved to Pittsfield in 1998. He married his wife Mary (Roscoe) Benoit Callahan on July 1, 2000 at St. Theresa's Church in Pittsfield. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield. He is survived by his wife and one daughter Faye A. Wood and her husband Michael, two sons Robert C. Callahan and John M. Callahan and his wife Ann, two stepsons Keith Benoit and his wife Mary, Craig Benoit and stepdaughter Lisa Benoit. He also leaves eight grandchildren, Kimberly Rougeau, Kate Levesque, Michael Wood Jr., Susan Callahan, Sarah Benoit, Rebecca, Taylor and Ian Benoit and four greatgrandchildren, Kyle and Madison Rougeau, Emmalie Wood and Delaney Levesque. He is also survived by one brother, John G. Callahan of California as well as his cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen Ann, a sister Dorothy who died in infancy, his sister Esther H. Quinn, three brothers Clyde, Clifford and Ewart Callahan. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Pittsfield, Ma. Burial will take in the spring in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams, Ma. Calling Hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga 5 Elm St. Pittsfield, Ma. are Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. In Lieu of Flowers memorial donations are suggested for Eileen Barrett Foundation or the American Heart Assoc through the funeral home.
