Carl R. Griggs Jr.

1924 - 2015 Mr. Carl Richmond Griggs, Jr., 91, of Warwick, Rhode Island, a former longtime resident of Clarksburg, died on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Brentwood Nursing Home in Warwick. He was born in Pittsfield on May 23, 1924, son of the late Carl and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Griggs and Step Mother Catherine Griggs. He attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1942. Mr. Griggs was a Veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Army Air Corps. until receiving his Honorable Discharge. Mr. Griggs was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in North Adams until his retirement in 1987. Earlier he had worked for the former Strong Hewat Co. in Clarksburg. He was a longtime member of the former St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams. He was known for his wry, often cynical, sense of humor and passion for social justice. He truly enjoyed sitting on his deck, with a good cigar, reading and sipping a glass of scotch. His wife, the former Marjorie Eddy, whom he married on August 10, 1946, died on January 10, 2005. He spent 10 years caring for Marjorie as she struggled with dementia. He is survived by; two daughters, Ellen Ramocki and her husband, Stephen of Warwick, RI and Leigh Griggs of East Greenwich, RI; four grandchildren, Melissa Ramocki, M.D. and her husband, Ryan Lovett of East Greenwich, RI, Eric Ramocki and his wife, Katie of North Attleboro, MA, David Ramocki of Watertown, MA and Andrew Ramocki of Brighton, MA; five great-grandchildren, Jaden and Ethan Ramocki and Anna, Ryan and Sarah Lovett and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two step-brothers, Arthur and Roy Caron. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held on Monday, November 16, at 11a.m. in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, with the Rev. Peter Elvin, Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, Williamstown, officiating. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. There are no calling hours. Carl's family wishes to thank the staff of Home and Hospice Care of RI for the wonderful care and comfort they provided for Carl over the last seven months, especially hospice nurse, Brenda, volunteer, Veronica and Chaplain, Dennis. The family is also grateful for the kindness and care of the staff at Brentwood Nursing Home.
