1933 - 2012
PITTSFIELD - Carol June Savery, age 78, of 176 Columbus Ave., Pittsfield, died Friday, June 8, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center.
She was born in Pittsfield on June 14, 1933, daughter of the late Theron B. and Laura Becker Hitchcock. She was educated in Lee schools and was a 1951 graduate of Lee High School; she also attended Berkshire Community College. Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Savery had worked for General Electric in her younger years before starting her family. She loved to travel and enjoyed reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was active at the Ralph Froio Senior Center and had attended St. Mark Church.
Mrs. Savery married John E. Savery at Notre Dame Church on Oct. 17, 1953; he died on Dec. 10, 1976.
Mrs. Savery is survived by her four daughters, Jacqueline "Jackie" Cobb and her husband, Richard, of Pittsfield, Julie Rampersad and her husband, Reynold, of Boynton Beach, Fla., Mary Bernardo and her husband, Ronald, of Pittsfield, and Theresa Amidon and her husband, Brian, of Pittsfield; two sons, Mark Savery and his wife, Debra, of Franklin, Mass., and John Savery of Goldsboro, N.C.; two sisters, Ruth Hayden and Dorothy Bleivik, both of Lee; one brother, Richard Hitchcock and his wife, Carolyn, of Lee; 18 grandchildren, Nicholas, Jason and Theron Savery, Robert Bernardo, Kimberly Simpson, Michael and Rachel Layden, Stephanie Provencher, Christopher and Nicholas Cobb, Justin and Brianna Amidon, Ryan Woodger, Melissa Odom, Brianna and Sarah Savery, and Laura and Heather Nye; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Savery was predeceased by her brother, Theodore Hitchcock; two sisters, Jane DeFreest and Barbara Holden; and her grandson, Jimmy Bernardo, who died on Oct. 22, 1990.
FUNERAL NOTICE Funeral services for Carol J. Savery will be held WEDNESDAY, June 13, 2012, at 8:15 AM at the DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM at St. Mark Church with the Rev. John A. Salatino, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be TUESDAY from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Kid's Place in memory of her grandson, Jimmy Bernardo, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
