Catherine Southgate

1920 - 2014 NORTH ADAMS Catherine Southgate, surrounded by her family, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 at Williamstown Commons, where she had resided for the past two years. Born August 17, 1920, she was the daughter of Earl and Bessie (Kinsey) Worthington. Catherine was a lifelong resident of the Historic Blackinton area of the city. She was employed in her early years at Berkshire Fine Spinning and General Cable Corp until her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, William Southgate in 1978 who lost a courageous battle to Lou Gehrig's Disease. Catherine was the oldest member of the Blackinton Union Church and a member of the Church Guild. Survivors include her son, Earl W. Southgate and his companion, Judith of Pownal, VT; a grandson, Bill Southgate and his wife, Payton of Pownal, VT; a granddaughter, Melissa Southgate Reed and her husband, Dale of North Adams. She also leaves four grandchildren; Jocelyn Nichol of Maine; Jerica Southgate of Pownal, VT ; and Sierra and Elijah Holland of North Adams, and a niece, Lesa Piantoni Cady of Cromwell, CT. FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no calling hours and a private burial service will take place at the convenience of the family.
