Charles Linwood Briggs 1930-2012 Mr. Charles Linwood Briggs, 81 of 40 Moores Rd. Florida, Mass., died Thursday April 5, 2012 at Sweetbrook Care Center. He was born in Adams, on November 8, 1930, son of Richard L. and Florence (LaFountain) Briggs. He attended Adams schools including the Adams High School. Charles was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Marines. He was employed for 33 years with K&M Motors in North Adams until his retirement. He was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church in Adams. Charles was the Fire Chief for the Town of Florida from 1975 to 1998. His wife was the former Carolyn Cooper who died on October 11, 2003. They were married on April 11, 1953. Survivors include two brothers- Bradley Briggs of Hinsdale, and Raymond Briggs of Florida, Mass. He also leaves nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Two brothers and two sisters are deceased including Richard Briggs Jr., Roger Briggs, Phoebe Pelkey, and Pearl Pfister. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Charles L. Briggs will be Tuesday April 10, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Florida Volunteer Fire Dept or the Florida Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
