1930-2013 Charles Frederick Bunnell, 83, of 89 Tanner Street, Pittsfield, died Monday, August 5, 2013, at Providence Care Center in Lenox.
Born in Pittsfield on April 30, 1930, the son of James J. and Alda Guerin Bunnell, he was a 1948 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from St. Michael's College, and earned his master's degree in education from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and continued his education through the National Science Foundation.
He served with the United States Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Bunnell was employed by the Central Berkshire Regional School District as a biology teacher at Wahconah Regional High School and at Nessacus Middle School for more than twenty-five years. He was a math and science tutor, as well.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and had been a communicant of the former St. Mary the Morning Star Church where he taught C.C.D.
Active in the community, Mr. Bunnell volunteered with Action For Opportunity, Habitat for Humanity, and the Fresh Air Fund. He was also a mentor for the Re-Seeds Program at Northeast University.
He enjoyed gardening and playing the banjo.
Mr. Bunnell leaves his wife, the former Sylvia Ann Shea, whom he married August 6, 1955.
He is also survived by three sons, James E. Bunnell and his wife, Eva, of Carlsbad, California, Robert J. Bunnell and his significant other, Donna Daley of Pittsfield, and Joseph P. Bunnell of Port St. Lucie, Florida; a daughter, Nancy Sacchetti and her husband, Jay, of Pittsfield; five grandchildren, Heather Bunnell, Alex Sacchetti, Adam Sacchetti, Katie Bunnell, and Samantha Bunnell, and a great grandson, Robert.
He was pre-deceased by two sons, Shaun Peter Bunnell and Thomas James Bunnell, and by a grandson, Robert M. Bunnell.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Charles Frederick Bunnell will be held Friday, August 9, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield.
Funeral services will be Saturday with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Church in Dalton celebrated by Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor.
Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kids 4 Harmony in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
