Charles R. Falkowski

1932-2013 PITTSFIELD Mr. Charles R. Falkowski, age 81, formerly of 7 Elmvale Pl.. Pittsfield, died Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Rosewood Homestyle Assisted Living in Pittsfield, He was born in Pittsfield, Jan. 18, 1932, the son of the late Charles J. and Chesterine Pryzanowski Falkowski. He attended the former Tucker School and the former Pittsfield Central Junior High School. A 1949 graduate of Pittsfield High School, he was a standout athlete in both baseball as well as football. A member of the renowned 1949 PHS football team, he played both split end and defensive end. Mr. Falkowski began his career at the U.S. Postal Service as a lettercarrier and rose through the ranks to become the Superintendent at the Pittsfield Post Office, retiring in 1986 after 30 years of service. He and his wife, the former Jeannine P. Lussier. whom he married Oct. 4, 1952, enjoyed nearly 45 years of marriage. She prececeased him on Sept. 29, 1997. A former communicant of Holy Family Church, he was a member of St. Joseph's Church. Mr. Falkowski was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. A life-long member of the Polish Falcons, he played shuffleboard there for many years. A fan of all sports and athletics, he was a noted fisherman and fly fisherman, who tied all of his own flies. A great gardener, he was known to grow the best tomatoes in the neighborhood. He was a big fan of minor league baseball, and enjoyed the many different teams who played at Wahconah Park over the years. More importantly, he took great pride and joy in following and watching his grandchildren play sports. He is survived by his two sons, Peter J. and his wife, Carolyn Falkowski of Pittsfield, and Eric C. and his wife, Melissa Falkowski of Pittsfield; two daughters, Joyce A. Palmer of Pittsfield and Judy and her husband, William Jansen of Pittsfield; his sister, Janet M. Kaminski of Stamford, Conn.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his niece, Kathy Wilkenson and his great-nephew, Charlie Wilkenson. FUNERAL NOTICE: Falkowski, Charles R., age 81, of 7 Elmvale Place., died Dec. 4. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be FRIDAY afternoon from 4 to 7. Funeral Services will be held SATURDAY morning at 8:15 from the funeral home followed with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in care of the funeral home.
