Charles Laurence Gravel passed on peacefully at home surrounded by his immediate family. Born in Bennington, VT., Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Charles Leo and Millicent (Sanford) Gravel. Second only to his family was his love of music. He was an accomplished musician of multiple instruments across various genres. A member of Pinecone, the Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, since 1997, he served in various offices as well as President from 2009-2011. A graduate of Boston University, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and an MBA from Capella University, he was a Mid-Range System Director/Supervisor at the College Foundation of North Carolina and various health insurance companies. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dorothy (Ryczek) Gravel and their two sons, Charles Luke and Henry Randolph Gravel, sisters; Marsha Altemus of Ashley Falls, MA. and Nadine Hottat of St. Mary, Jamaica as well as several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Dennis Jacokes for his guidance, Dr. Nirav Dhruva and the wonderful staff at Rex Oncology as well as Joan Bruno and Kellaun Lindsy of Transitions Hospice. At Charlie's request, there will be no services but he asked that memorial donations be made to the Jimmy Fund in Boston or St. Jude's Hospital to help in the care of children with cancer and in support of their families.
