Charles White Latimer 1925-2011 NORTH ADAMS Charles White Latimer, 86, of 488 East Main Street, North Adams, died Monday, December 5, 2011 at Williamstown Commons in Williamstown. Born in New York, N.Y., on April 20, 1925, he was the son of Harold Latimer and Edith (Thayer) Latimer. Mr. Latimer attended schools in New York City and at age 17, joined the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II. In 1944, he was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Following the war, Mr. Latimer returned to New York City as a singer and performer on Broadway. He relocated to Pleasant Valley, CT and in 1963 was appointed Post Master. After 30 years with the Postal Service, he retired and moved to the Berkshires in the early 1990's to be near family. Mr. Latimer was a member of the Actors' Equity Association, as well as the Lions Club in CT. His wife, the former Janice Householder, died in 2003. Mr. Latimer is survived by his son, Lance T. Latimer of North Adams, and three grandchildren, Lance C. Latimer of North Adams, Jess Latimer of Pittsfield, and Jaclyn Latimer of North Adams. He also leaves a daughter-in-law Marcia Latimer of North Adams. He is predeceased by a brother and three sisters. At Mr. Latimer's request, there are no services. Flynn and Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS 521 West Main St. North Adams, Ma. was entrusted with arrangements.
