Charles A. Monterosso

1919 2013 PITTSFIELD Mr. Charles A. Monterosso, 93, of 6 Chatham Street, Pittsfield, died Wednesday, June 26, at Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral, FL.

Born on December 14, 1919 in Pittsfield, he was the son of the late Anthony and Rose Sorrenti Monterosso.

A communicant of Notre Dame Church, he volunteered to work at the weekly Bingo held in the church hall. He was also a member of the ITAM Lodge, enjoyed watching sports on television and a devoted New York Yankee's baseball fan.

A lifelong resident of Pittsfield, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and employed for 42 years by General Electric in Pittsfield until his retirement in 1981. He also served in the US Army during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1944.

In retirement, he and his wife Cora spent their first twelve years splitting their time between Pittsfield (summertime) and the winter months in Bradenton Beach, Florida. In 1994, Charles and Cora then decided to relocate their winter home from Bradenton Beach to North Fort Myers, Florida to be closer to family living in the area.

He is survived by his wife Cora R. Monterosso and three children: Barbara Jean Sweeney and her husband William of Dalton, MA, Joan Marie Frelick and her husband James of North Fort Myers, FL and Anthony Charles Monterosso and his wife Maureen of San Jose, CA. He is survived by two sisters: Barbara R. Mole and Carmella D. Moretti both of Pittsfield and one brother: James Monterosso and his wife Laura of Pittsfield. Charles and Cora have been blessed with four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by five sisters: Mary Mathis, Elizabeth Klimkiewicz, Josephine Daley, Rose Mole and Catherine Monterosso and by two brothers: Frank "Chic" Monterosso and Anthony "Toot" Monterosso.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Charles A. Monterosso, 93, of Pittsfield who died June 26, 2013 will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013 with calling hours from 8:45am 9:45am at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial donations in memory of Charles may be made to the Hope Hospice House - Cape Coral, FL or any other charitable organization of your choosing in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
