Charles Francis Starr, Jr.

1925-2012 NORTH ADAMS Charles Francis Starr, Jr. 87, of North Adams, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 after a brief illness.

He was born May 21, 1925., to Charles F. Starr, Sr. and Margaret Thomann Starr of North Adams. He attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1943.

In his early years, he was employed by Cornish Wire. Later, in 1946, he started Vets Taxi and then in 1952 he went to work for Gilmore Cadillac and Oldsmobile as a used car manager. In 1959, he started his own business, Starr Auto Sales, which he ran with his wife until his retirement in 2002.

He was married in July 1955 to Norma Moran and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005. She predeceased him in Sept. of 2005.

Survivors include three children, Cheryl Starr Boillat and her husband Paul of North Adams, Judith Rose and her husband Alan of Plattsburgh, N.Y. and a son, Keith Starr and his wife Michelle of Leominster, Mass. also threee stepsons, Bruce Catrambone and his wife Barbara of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; Gregg Catrambone and his wife Carol of Harrah, Okla.; and Joseph Catrambone and his wife Nancy of Clarksburg. He is also survived by one sister, Marlene Bush and her husband Francis of North Adams. He leaves nine grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and five great grandchildren as well as nieces and cousins.

Mr. Starr was an avid sports fan and mostly enjoyed watching his grandsons play High school and College athletics. He supported Drury baseball, and softball and basketball through a scholarship program. His favorite pastime was collecting stamps, and working on all types of cars and car parts. He was an active member of the Berkshire County Sherriff's Association and enjoyed fundraising for their charities.

FUNERAL NOTICE: a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church, North Adams, MA. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling Hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, Ma. are Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. In Lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested for Elder Services of Northern Berkshire Meals on Wheels program through the funeral home.
