Charlotte Mae Browne

Mrs. Charlotte Mae Browne, 84, formerly of Pittsfield, died peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol, MA. Born in Pittsfield to the late Harold and Isabelle Linker, she was the oldest of eight children. A 1947 graduate of Pittsfield High School, Charlotte served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was stationed in New Jersey.

Upon returning to Pittsfield after receiving an Honorable Discharge, she waitressed at several local restaurants including the former Busy Bee and Elm Street Luncheonette. Charlotte was a loving mother to her son and a dedicated daughter and sister to her parents and seven brothers, often serving as caretaker to her younger siblings.

She married Herbert Browne in 1972 with whom she spent many happy years until his death in 1993. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, and enjoyed reading, attending tag sales, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, William Burch of Athol, and his wife Nancy; a brother, Kenneth Linker of Pittsfield; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Linker of Pittsfield; two grandchildren, Sara Burch of Athol and Laura Burch of Leominster; nine nieces and nephews: Debra Keller, Kevin Linker, Jenny Linker, Jason Linker, Daryl Linker, Raymond Linker, Hal Linker, Susan Stracuzzi, and Bruce Linker, Jr.; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Christine Hause of Athol.

She is predeceased by her husband Herbert; six brothers: John, Harold, Bruce, Robert, Raymond, and James; and sister-in-law, Shirley Linker.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Service for Charlotte Mae Browne will be held Tuesday August 13, 2013 at 11am at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME PITTSFIELD MA 01201 burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home Monday August 12, 2013 from 4-7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the John Linker Memorial Scholarship at Athol High School Scholarship Association, PO Box 338, Athol, MA 01331 (www.ahsscholarship.org) or the Muscular Dystrophy Association (www.mda.org).
