Charlotte Hunt Pignatelli Obituary

Charlotte Hunt Pignatelli, long-time resident of Lenox, has died, unexpectedly, at 98. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Charlotte delighted in her family and encouraged a close family bond among succeeding generations. She sent birthday cards, made phone calls, attended graduations and nuptials, even reading at her grandson's wedding in September.

She was an avid reader, a Celtics fan, and a patriotic person interested in current affairs. Until her last day, she lived independently with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Okie in her Lenox home of 65 years, surrounded by family photos and with frequent visits from her sons, grandchildren and devoted friends.

Charlotte was born In 1918 as a twelfth generation American. The Hunt and Barnard families emigrated to Massachusetts in 1636. An only child to Roy and Ruby Hunt, Charlotte graduated as valedictorian from Charlemont High School and went on to earn her college degree from what was then North Adams State College. Her college roommate, Louise Pignatelli, introduced Charlotte to her brother, Bart. They became fast friends and married soulmates. When Bart returned from his years of active duty during World War II, they returned to Lenox and never wanted to leave. Bart, the love of her life, passed away in 2002.

While raising three children, Charlotte became a school teacher and school principal in Lenox Dale, leaving her mark on many local children. She was a Charter Member of the VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed her service on the Stewardship Committee and the Caregiving Committee of the Church on the Hill. In later years, Charlotte and Bart traveled to Florida, making friends there and meeting up with several Lenox friends.

She is survived by her three sons, Gary (Mary Jane) of Lenox, Michael (Debora), of Nashua, New Hampshire, and Nick (Maryellen), of Lenox; seven grandchildren, Adam (Jessica), of Concord, New Hampshire, Andrea, of New York City, Benjamin (Lizzie), of Jamaica Plain, Mark (Danni), of Boston, Naomi Siok (Tim), of Groton, and Sarah and Dan, of Lenox; and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Miles, of Concord, New Hampshire, and Delia, of Groton; as well as her beloved brother-in- law and sister-in-law, John and Mary Jane Pignatelli, of Lenox.

Charlotte also leaves behind many true friends, young and younger, who loved her over many years and accompanied her to concerts, lectures, plays, parades, town events, and dinners. They were so important to her.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be hosted at Roche Funeral Home in Lenox on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm and funeral services will be held at the Church on the Hill in Lenox, where she was a long-time Congregant, on Wednesday at 11 am.
