1928-2016 PITTSFIELD Charlotte M. Rivers, age 88, of 193 Elberon Ave. Rose Manor, died Friday morning at the Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility. She was born in Pittsfield, March 24, 1928, the daughter of the late George and Gorgiana Bence. She attended the local schools and was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Employed in the food preparation and serving sector, she and her late husband, Raymond, operated the former Duck Soup Restaurant in Lanesboro prior to her 30 years long career with the Richmond Bakery and the adjacent Fish Market. Most recently, she was employed with Petricca Industries retiring in 1995. A long time communicant of St. Charles Church, she loved to swim throughout her life as well as watching butterflies and tending her garden. She and her husband loved to travel to Hampton Beach, the Cape Cod beaches as well as those in Rhode Island. Her husband of 40 years, Raymond L. Rivers, died in March 1989. She is survived by 3 sons, Raymond E. Rivers and his wife, Marlene M., of Cheshire, Ma., Guy Rivers of Yukon, Ok., and Kevin G. Rivers of Pittsfield, her granddaughters Kimberly A. Grady and her husband, Derek, of Cheshire, and Kelly L. Rivers of Pittsfield, Beau Rivers of Yukon, Ok., and Shane Rivers and his wife Karen of Woodbridge,Va., her 5 great grandchildren, Bret, Drew, Dominic, Brodie and Hattie, her daughter-in-law, Kathy M. Rivers of Pittsfield and her former daughter in law, Linda Rivers of Yukon, Ok. and many nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews. Her son, Wayne R. "Hawk" Rivers, died Aug. 15, 2007. The family is most grateful to the staff of Mt. Greylock as well as HospiceCare for the wonderful care given to Charlotte. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be held WEDENSDAY morning beginning at 10:00 am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Charles Church with the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to either St. Charles Church Memorial Fund or to HospiceCare of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
