Charlotte Eleanor Snow

1921 - 2013 OTIS Charlotte Eleanor Snow, 92, of Otis, passed away after a short illness on Dec. 29, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington with her family at her side. Born in Sandisfield on May 15, 1921, to Alfred and Ada Hawley Rowley, she attended schools in Sandisfield and was a graduate of Lee High School. She married Chester B. Snow at the Otis Congregational Church on Oct. 20, 1940. They recently celebrated 73 years of marriage. When her children were small, Eleanor worked for New England Telephone as a switchboard operator in the town of Otis. She began her nursing career at the New Boston Nursing Home as an aide. She obtained her License in Practical Nursing and began work at the Monterey Nursing Home, transferring with them to the former Willowood Nursing Home in Great Barrington, retiring from there at 75 years of age. She and Chester enjoyed traveling to California, Florida, and to their special place at White Village on Cape Cod. Besides her husband, she leaves her two daughters, Jeanette Spalinger and her husband, Richard, of Lee, and Virginia Bartini, also of Lee. A third daughter, Lucy Ann Snow McDonald, predeceased her in 2005. She was also predeceased by her brothers, William and Marvin Rowley; by her sister, Beatrice Loring, and by her son-n-law, James Bartini. Eleanor also leaves seven grandchildren, Sherri LePrevost and Kelly McDonald Hammerle of Otis; Brian Bartini, Shannon Hughes and James Bartini of Lee; Daniel Spalinger of Windham, N.H., and Michael Spalinger of Torrington, Conn. She was very proud that she also had 12 great grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Eleanor Snow will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Lee with the Rev. Bill Neil, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the Otis Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Saturday at the Church from 10:30 until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Otis Rescue Squad, Otis Fire Department or the in care of the KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238.
