Charlotte Weissenstein Obituary
Charlotte Weissenstein, 93, of Stockbridge, passed away June 18, 2014, at home, peacefully in her sleep.
A native of Berlin, Germany, she and her mother fled the Nazis to New York City.
Over the years, she worked in various jobs: first as a secretary and later an administrative assistant, as well as assisting her husband in his store in Lenox.
The widow of the late photographer, Heinz H. Weissenstein, she leaves behind her three sons, Peter of Stockbridge; Robert of New York City and his children, Ben, Emily and Josh; and David and his wife, Karen, of Colchester, Vt., and their children, Amy and Eric.
A stepson, Herbert, whom she raised, predeceased her. Other survivors include Herbert's wife, Connie, and his children, Kathryn and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Layla and Mateo; a niece, Yvonne, and several cousins in Germany, Israel and the U.S who would phone or come to visit her.
She loved attending opera, concerts, and theatre as well as traveling and spending time with family and friends. Her other hobbies included needlepoint, knitting and crocheting.
Charlotte loved reading and over the years was a member of several local book groups. She also served on the Lenox Cultural Council.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be held at Temple Anshe Amunim, 26 Broad St., Pittsfield, on Monday, June 23, at 11 a.m., with Rabbi David Weiner (of K.I.) officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by Roche Funeral Home in Lenox.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Anshe Amunim, Hospice of Western Massachusetts or Tanglewood Music Center, care of Roche Funeral Home, P.O. Box 152, Lenox, MA 01240.
