Chester C. Bialas

1920 - 2014 CHESHIRE Chester C. Bialas, 94, formerly of Furnace Hill, died Friday, Nov. 21, at Springside of Pittsfield where he has resided for a month. Born on Jan. 20, 1920 in Adams, a son of the late Walter and Aniela Drozd Bialas. He attended Adams schools and was a graduate of Adams High School. He enlisted in the US Air Force and was a member of the 20th Air Force Bomber Squadron and was a flight engineer on A B 29, and had served in the South Pacific; he was discharged as a sergeant on Jan. 4, 1946 honorably. While in Cheshire he had served as an assessor for five years, he was a member of the Cheshire Lions Club and was elected King Lion in 1964. Mr. Bialas had been employed for the General Electric Company for 40 years retiring in 1981 as a quality control inspector. After his retirement he and his wife traveled extensively and had visited every state in the United States except Alaska. They had also visited many of the Canadian provinces. He was a communicant of Saint Mary of the Assumption Church and was a member of its Holy Name Society; he also was active in many church affairs. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs and a member of the American Legion Post 160 of Adams. He leaves his beloved wife, the former Priscilla "Pat" Perreault, whom he married Jan. 3, 1948 at Notre Dame Church in Adams; one son, David A. Bialas, and his wife, Julie, of Cheshire; three daughters, Barbara Garbati, and her husband, Robert, of Wilmington, Mass., Diane B. Briggs of Cheshire, and Nancy Gregory of Lafayette, Colo; seven grandchildren, Michael Garbati, Jessica Houk and husband, Paul, Marc Bialas, Matthew Bialas and wife, Alicia, Heather Bialas, Jacqueline Third and husband, Barry, and Andrew Gregory; five great-grandchildren, Joshua, Kassandra, Lucas, Kaitlyn and Harper. Chester was predeceased by his son-in-law, William Briggs; and by three brothers, Albert, Joseph, and Anthony Bialas; and by a sister, Anna Bialas. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 10:30 a.m. from the DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, 121 North State Rd. Cheshire, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary of the Assumption Church, celebrated by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow at Saint Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery in Adams. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials in his memory may be made to the Cheshire Lions Club in care of the funeral home.
