Christo Efthemios Maniatis

1920-2013 PITTSFIELD Christo Efthemios Maniatis, 92, of 66 Ann Drive, Pittsfield, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center.

Born in Langadia, Greece, on October 28, 1920, a son of Vasilo and Efthemios Karapanagiotis Maniatis, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Maniatis enlisted with the United States Army on March 23, 1942, served with the 123rd Ordnance of the First Armored Division overseas.

He was discharged as a Technician Fifth Grade on February 15, 1946.

Mr. Maniatis was a restaurateur for more than fifty years. He had first co-owned Christo's with his brother, John, which they closed in 1969, and from 1947, co-owned Johnny's with his brother, John, until it closed

He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

Mr. Maniatis loved golf. During his lifetime, he had scored five holes in one.

Mr. Maniatis leaves his wife, the former Helen Davoulas, whom he married February 8, 1948.

He is also survived by two children, his daughter, Kiki M. Robinson and her husband, Rob, of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, and his son, Nicholas C. Maniatis and his wife, Janet, of Pittsfield; a sister, Helen Pappas and her husband, Bill, of Pittsfield; five grandchildren, James Robinson and his wife Yvette, Chris Robinson and his wife, Liz, Christopher Maniatis and his wife, Janice, Kristy Maniatis, and Jennifer Reiter and her husband, Mike, and six great grandchildren.

He was pre-deceased by a sister, Demetra Kandiaris, and two brothers, John Maniatis and Peter Maniatis.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Christo E. Maniatis will be held Friday, May 31, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME. A prayer service will follow at 7:00 p.m.

The funeral will be held Saturday, June 1, at 11:00 a.m., at St. George Greek Orthodox Church officiated by Rev. Fr. John G. Maheras, Protoprebyter. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m., at the Church. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church or to the in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
