Czeslaw "Chester" Chrostowski

1936 - 2015 PITTSFIELD Mr. Czeslaw "Chester" Chrostowski, 79, passed away at home peacefully on Sunday evening. Born in Szawark, Poland on Jan. 3, 1936, he was the son of Stanley and Julia Wrona Chrostowski. He attended schools in Poland where he received his teaching degree. Mr. Chros-towski was a grammar school teacher in Poland before coming to the United States to join his family in 1961. He worked as a maintenance man for many years before retiring in 2000 from the New York Board of Education. Chester had a true passion for gardening; he had several vegetable gardens across the city including Canoe Meadows, his own home, and at the homes of family members. He was an animal lover and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and favored the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He had also been involved in gymnastics at a younger age. Mr. Chrostowski is survived by his wife, the former Krystyna Prokop, whom he married in 1963 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He also leaves his three children, Barbara Faulkner and her husband, David, of North Adams, Margaret Curro and her husband Paul, and Mark Chrostowski and his wife, Karen, all of Pittsfield; a brother, Stanley Chrostowski of Pittsfield; and four grandchildren, Kevin Curro, Andrew Curro, Michael Faulkner and Kathryn Faulkner. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Friday, March 13, at 10 a.m. from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Agnes Church in Dalton, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
