Daniel M. Reed

1946 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Daniel M. Reed, 67, of 43 Howard Street, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at his home. Born in Boston, on September 20, 1946, a son of Daniel B. and Marguerite Mahoney Reed, he was educated in Pittsfield Catholic schools and was a 1964 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School. A Vietnam War veteran, he served with the Army from Aug., 1971 to July, 1972. At the time of his death, Mr. Reed was employed as a bartender at DelGallo Restaurant on Newell Street, where he had worked for 40 years. He had, at one time, worked for The Berkshire Eagle. Mr. Reed was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was a member of The Elks Club. He was also a member of the Pittsfield American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed horse racing. Mr. Reed leaves his wife, the former Ann Higgins, whom he married February 5, 1972, in Our Lady of the Valley Church, in Sheffield; two sons, Joseph M. Reed of Pittsfield and Kevin F. Reed and his wife, Theresa Gennari Reed, of Hinsdale; four daughters, Theresa M. Reed, Kathleen L. Reed, Jessica A. Kratka and her husband, James, and Elizabeth M. Reed, all of Pittsfield; a brother, Richard E. Reed, of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Rebecca Kratka, Samantha Kratka, Jacob Kratka, Emily Kratka, Crystal Townsend, and Patrick Lorenz; several nieces and nephews, and his sisters-in-law, Diann Reed and Jane Reed. He was pre-deceased by his twin brother, Thomas Reed, and another brother, Michael Reed. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Daniel M. Reed will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, at 10:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be today, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the , in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
